Mark has coined a new term for what we play - AmeriCanadiana. But that doesn't tell the whole story.
Our original music is a unique fusion of roots and alternative country rock. If you like Blue Rodeo, Tom Petty or the Cowboy Junkies, you'll probably like what we have to offer.
Mark and Kinnexa started out together nearly six years ago (together with the rest of the band) as indie hard rockers Kinnexa Cross - but while we loved the aggressive sound and had quite a bit of success with it, we found that as we moved along our musical path things changed considerably. With the unexpected departure of our lead guitar, in 2010, Mark took over lead duties and has had a very strong influence on our sound. In the spring of 2011 we changed our name to reflect our more rootsy development, and in October 2011 we released our first album as "Northlander". Following that release, KC met Colin at a S.A.C. event in 2010, and periodically reminded him that he'd be the right drummer for this band, so about a year ago he decided to join up with us, followed by Scott on bass. So we have really found our groove in the past year and are looking to do great things in 2014.
While we prefer stage gigs and house concerts, we do occasionally play bars and other gigs where we have to add covers to the setlist, but you can be sure we specialize in Canadian covers, our way!
